Course Description: Focus on STEM introduces educators to a new perspective from which to develop their craft.  PODetc students will use online tools to integrate and apply the components of STEM to their curricula.  Course participants will develop a working definition of STEM as it applies to their own teaching.  Students need the opportunity to forge not just social networks, but problem solving networks to collaborate across borders in finding common solutions to global problems. Educators must work toward the goal of preparing tomorrow’s global builders and makers. 

Learning Objectives: This course focuses on ISTE’s 2008 NET Teacher Standard: Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity; Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments; Model Digital Age Work and Learning; Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership, and ISTE NET Student Standards: Creativity and Innovation; Communication and Collaboration; Research and Information Fluency; Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, and Decision Making, and Technology Operations and Concepts. The four weeks of instruction are organized as follows:

Week 1:  What is STEM?


Week 2:  STEM in the 21st Century


Week 3:  STEM Student Tools


Week 4:  Building a STEM Lesson

This course meets the following standards:

Target Audience: This course is geared towards K-12, technical and community college instructors, administrators, library media specialists, and technology leaders.
